shrimp fra diavolo

Shrimp Fra Diavolo is a classic Italian-American dish featuring shrimp cooked in a spicy tomato-based sauce. Here’s a simple recipe for you to enjoy this flavorful dish:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (about 450g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 pound (about 450g) linguine or spaghetti, cooked according to package instructions

Instructions:

  1. Season and Cook Shrimp:
    • Season the shrimp with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and cook for 1-2 minutes per side until they turn pink. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Prepare Tomato Sauce:
    • In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
    • Pour in the crushed tomatoes, white wine, dried oregano, dried basil, dried thyme, dried rosemary, and sugar (if using). Stir to combine.
  3. Simmer Sauce:
    • Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Adjust the seasoning with salt and additional red pepper flakes if you prefer more heat.
  4. Add Shrimp and Fresh Herbs:
    • Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet. Add chopped fresh parsley and basil. Stir well and let it simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes until the shrimp are heated through.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve the Shrimp Fra Diavolo over cooked linguine or spaghetti. Garnish with additional fresh herbs and a drizzle of olive oil if desired.

Enjoy your delicious and spicy Shrimp Fra Diavolo! Adjust the level of heat according to your preference, and feel free to customize the dish with your favorite seafood or pasta type.
