Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 50 minutes
Recipe Intensity: Moderate

Ingredients:

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce or marinara sauce
  • Cooking spray or oil spray

For the Sauce:

  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce or marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

Instructions:

  1. Core the cabbage and carefully separate the leaves. Blanch the cabbage leaves in boiling water for about 2-3 minutes until they are pliable. Remove them from the water and set aside to cool.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, beaten egg, salt, pepper, paprika, dried thyme, dried oregano, and 1/4 cup of tomato sauce. Mix well to combine.
  3. Take a cabbage leaf and place a portion of the meat mixture (about 2-3 tablespoons) at the base of the leaf. Roll the leaf tightly around the filling, tucking in the sides as you roll, to form a cabbage roll. Repeat with the remaining cabbage leaves and filling.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the ingredients for the sauce: crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, sugar, salt, pepper, dried basil, and dried oregano.
  5. Lightly coat the air fryer basket with cooking spray or oil spray.
  6. Arrange the stuffed cabbage rolls in the air fryer basket in a single layer, seam side down.
  7. Pour the sauce mixture evenly over the cabbage rolls.
  8. Air fry the stuffed cabbage rolls at 375°F (190°C) for about 20 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
  9. Once done, carefully remove the stuffed cabbage rolls from the air fryer and transfer them to a serving plate.
  10. Serve the stuffed cabbage rolls hot, topped with extra sauce if desired.

Note: Cooking times may vary depending on the size of your cabbage rolls and the efficiency of your air fryer. Check the rolls periodically to avoid overcooking.

Enjoy your delicious and savory stuffed cabbage rolls made in the air fryer!
