air fryer mashed potato

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Recipe Intensity: Easy

  • 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup milk (or more as needed)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: chopped fresh herbs (such as chives or parsley), grated cheese, crispy bacon bits

  1. Place the peeled and chopped potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a pinch of salt to the water.
  2. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low and let the potatoes simmer until they are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them well and transfer them to a large mixing bowl.
  4. Add the softened butter, milk, salt, and pepper to the bowl with the potatoes.
  5. Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or a fork until they reach your desired consistency. Add more milk if needed to achieve a creamy texture.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3-5 minutes.
  7. Transfer the mashed potatoes to the air fryer basket or tray in an even layer.
  8. Air fry the mashed potatoes at 375°F (190°C) for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are heated through and the top starts to turn golden brown.
  9. Optional: If you want a crispier top, you can spray the top of the mashed potatoes with a little cooking spray or brush with melted butter before air frying.
  10. Once done, remove the air fryer basket or tray from the air fryer and garnish the mashed potatoes with chopped fresh herbs, grated cheese, or crispy bacon bits if desired.
  11. Serve the air fryer mashed potatoes hot as a delicious side dish alongside your favorite main course.

Note: Keep an eye on the mashed potatoes while air frying to prevent them from getting too browned on top. You can adjust the air frying time based on your desired level of crispiness.

Enjoy your homemade air fryer mashed potatoes, creamy on the inside and crispy on top!
