Italian Sausage Peppers and Onions

Italian Sausage with Peppers and Onions is a classic and flavorful dish. Here’s a simple recipe you can try:


  • 4 Italian sausages (sweet or hot, based on your preference)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 bell peppers (any color), sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Red pepper flakes for heat
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish


  1. In a large skillet or frying pan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the Italian sausages to the pan and cook until browned on all sides. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Once the sausages are browned, remove them from the pan and set them aside.
  4. In the same pan, add sliced onions and bell peppers. Cook until they are softened and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Add minced garlic to the vegetables and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  6. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add dried oregano, dried basil, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if desired. Stir to combine.
  7. Return the browned sausages to the pan, nestling them into the vegetables and tomato sauce.
  8. Cover the pan and simmer over medium-low heat for 20-25 minutes, or until the sausages are cooked through.
  9. Check the seasoning and adjust as needed.
  10. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.

You can serve this dish over cooked pasta, rice, or with a side of crusty bread. It’s a hearty and delicious meal with the classic flavors of Italian cuisine.
